Recreation Overview

ALERT - Harmonized Sales Tax (HST)

Effective July 1, 2010, the federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the Ontario Retail Sales Tax (RST) will be converted to a value-added tax structure to create a single sales tax to be administered by the Canada Revenue Agency, The combined Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) will be 13% consisting of a 5% federal portion and an 8% provincial portion. The 8% provincial portion will be added to all goods and services provided to which the GST has already been applied.

The will result in higher user registration,  membership and admission fees due to the HST adding tax to numerous goods and services not previously subject to provincial sales tax. The increase in expenses will ultimately have to be incurred by the registrants/members/users.
